Teacher
My roots run deep in Beauregard Parish. I attended Hyatt High School in Fields, La from kindergarten through my graduation in 1985.
Following high school, I earned my degree in elementary education at McNeese State University in 1989.
In 1992, I married Robert Brown. He was formerly a teacher and coach in Beauregard Parish and later transferred to Allen Parish where he taught and coached until his passing in 2013 from a short battle with cancer. Because of his diagnosis of oral cancer from smokeless tobacco use, educating others on the dangers of smokeless tobacco has become one of my passions.
We are the parents of two daughters, Taylor and Tori. They both attended school in Elizabeth where their dad taught and coached. Taylor graduated from McNeese and teaches in Elizabeth. Tori earned her RN BSN and is a labor and delivery nurse in Lake Charles. I am the proud grandmother of three amazing grandchildren, Asher, Adalynn, and Raylan James. My son-in-law is Chris Jenkins.
Sticking to Dorothy and her friends in the Wizard of Oz has given us some wonderful learning opportunities. My students know that they have all the things being searched for in this story. They come to school with hearts, brains and courage to achieve almost anything we try.
My students are told often that each of them will change the world one day. For now, they have changed mine.
When not in my classroom, I love spending time with my family. People often told me how wonderful it was to be a grandparent. I didn’t quite understand how true this was until I became one.
I also enjoy working in my church. My school and church families are very important to me.
